Introduction to the MGCP Feature

Definition

Defined by IETF, MGCP is a protocol that specifies a call control mechanism in which call control and service bearing are separated. Call control is independent of the media gateway (MG) and is processed by the MGC. Therefore, MGCP is actually a master-slave protocol. The MG establishes various service connections under the control of the MGC.
MGCP provides the following commands:
  1. NotificationRequest: The MGC sends this command to request the MG to detect a specified event, such as an offhook event or onhook event. After detecting such an event, the MG notifies the MGC. Through this command, the MGC can also instruct the MG to play signal tones, such as the dial tone and busy tone.
  2. Notify: After the MG detects the specified event as instructed by the MGC, the MG sends this command to notify the MGC of the detected event.
  3. CreateConnection: The MGC sends this command to instruct the MG to create a media connection. The command contains the instruction or suggestion on the bearing parameters and connection parameters.
  4. ModifyConnection: The MGC sends this command to instruct the MG to modify the bearing parameters and connection parameters of an established media connection.
  5. DeleteConnection: The MGC sends this command to instruct the MG to delete an established media connection. The MG can also voluntarily delete a connection. This means that, when the MG discovers that system resources are insufficient or the system is faulty, the MG can delete the connection and at the same time send this command to notify the MGC. Therefore, this command is bi-directionally available between the MGC and the MG.
  6. AuditEndpoint and AuditConnection: The MGC sends the commands to check the status of a specified endpoint and connection.
  7. RestartInProgress: The MG sends this command to notify the MGC that the MG or a certain endpoint managed by the MG is not available or is becoming available. This command is usually triggered by a system fault or restart.

MGCP also provides the following features:
  1. Encoding in the text format
  2. Adopting the Session Description Protocol (SDP) to describe the connection parameters of the media stream
  3. Introducing the concept of event package
  4. Adopting the wildcard to describe endpoints and events

Purpose

MGCP solves the internal problems of MG and media devices, thus realizing an open distributed system which is formed by the MG and media devices.
In the MGCP mechanism, the MG and media devices are separated into two logically independent parties, the MG and the MGC, which communicate through MGCP. The MG processes the user plane, and the MGC processes the control plane and controls the actions of the MG. In other words, the MG acts under the control of the MGC.

Service Interruption Caused by Replacement of MABH Subracks

Service Interruption Caused by Replacement of MABH Subracks
Summary: A 19-inch subrack on the MA5600T is replaced with a subrack that has a different PCB pversion after configuration data is saved on the main control board. Although the system starts up
normally, service interruption occurs on the MA5600T after the board replacement because the LSW
chip port numbers on the backplane with a different PCB version are different.
Product Line: Access Network   Product Family:O ptical access
[Problem Description]
Trigger conditions:
A subrack on the MA5600T is replaced with a subrack that has a different PCB version after
configuration data is saved on the main control board.
Symptom:
After the subrack replacement, the system can start up but services of slots 1–4 are interrupted.
Identification method:
Method 1: Run commands to check the backplane type of subracks. If the PCB version of the new
subrack is different from that of the original subrack, services are affected. As shown in the following
message, the PCB version is VER C which is different from that of the original subrack whose PCB
version is VER B.
MA5600T(config)#display version backplane 0
  Backplane: H801MABH
  -----------------------------------------
  PCB           Version: H801MABH VER C
  MAB           Version: 0001
  Board            Type: 8
Method 2: Remove boards in slots 10–16 from the subracks and check the PCB silk screens on the backplanes. If the PCB versions are
different, as shown in the following two figures, services will be affected after subrack replacement.
Silk screen of PCB version on backplane

[Root Cause]
Hardware on the MABH backplane is upgraded. The PCB version is upgraded to VER C from
VER B. Port numbers of the LSW chip on the main control board and slots 1–4 on the MABH
backplane are adjusted to enhance the bandwidth processing capability of the MABH backplane
and ensure good signal quality. Because service configuration is related to LSW ports, data saved
on the backplane of VER B version cannot be directly used on the backplane of VER C version.

[Impact and Risk]
Services are affected although the system can start up.

[Measures and Solutions]
Recovery measures:
Measure 1: Replace the subrack with a subrack that has the same PCB version.
Measure 2: After the system starts up, run the following command to restore data and generate new
data files.
MA5600T(config)#active configuration system
System will reboot after this command, continue? (y/n)[n]:y
Note: The command execution duration depends on the number of configured services on the live
network. More services require a longer duration. Usually, it takes about 1 hour. The execution
duration will not exceed 3 hours.
Preventive measures:
When a subrack needs to be replaced, replace it with a subrack that has the same backplane version.
Solution:
Release new versions for smooth switch. The plan for new versions is as follows:
R007 version: V800R007C00SPC313 which is to be released in May
R008 version: V800R008C00SPC312 which is to be released in April
R009 version: V800R009C00SPC106 which is to be released in May
R010 version: V800R010C00SPC102 which is to be released in July

How to Configure an Interface Address Pool on Huawei S2700?

Questions:
How to configure an Interface Huawei OLT Address Pool on Huawei Quidway S2700?

Answer:
Procedure
Run:system-view,The system view is displayed.
Run:dhcp enable,DHCP is enabled.
Run:interface interface-type interface-number,The interface view is displayed.VLANIF interfaces can be configured to select interface address pools for IP address allocation.
Run:ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length },An IP address is assigned to the interface.
Run:dhcp select interface,The device is configured to use an interface address pool. The interface address pool is actually the network segment to which the interface belongs, and such an interface address pool only applies to this interface.
(Optional) Run:dhcp server lease { day day [ hour hour [ minute minute ] ] | unlimited },The IP address lease is set.By default, the IP address lease is 1 day.
Run:dhcp server excluded-ip-address start-ip-address [ end-ip-address ],The IP addresses that cannot be automatically allocated in the interface address pool are configured.
Some IP addresses in the interface address pool are reserved for other services, for example, the IP address of the DNS server cannot be allocated to clients. If you run this command multiple times, you can set multiple IP address ranges that cannot be automatically allocated in the DHCP address pool.
Run:dhcp server static-bind ip-address ip-address mac-address mac-address,An IP address in the interface address pool is statically bound to the MAC address of a DHCP client. When a client requires a fixed IP address, bind an idle IP address in the address pool to the client MAC address.

NOTE:
When the IP address in the global address pool is statically bound to a MAC address, the IP address must be in the range of IP addresses that can be allocated dynamically.
