The MSTP Configuration of stp root

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

The stp root command is used to set the current device as the root bridge of a specified spanning tree instance or to back up the root bridge. The tree network topology must have a root. When you need to specify the root of the spanning tree instance, run this command. After the current device is set as a root bridge, the current device is the root of the spanning tree and the device transmits Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) packets to the exterior at intervals.
The undo stp root command is used to cancel setting the current device as the root bridge of a specified spanning tree instance or to back up the root bridge. When you need to renew the root bridge after the network topology is changed, run this command. After the setting of the current device as the root bridge is canceled, the role of the current device in the current topology is changed.
NOTE:
After the current device is set as a root bridge or a root bridge is backed up, the system priority of the device will be automatically changed to the default setting, and users are not allowed to modify the system priority of the device.

Format

stp [ instance instance-id ] root { primary | secondary }
undo stp [ instance instance-id ] root

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
instance instance-id Indicates the spanning tree instance ID. The value 0 indicates the Common And Internal Spanning Tree (CIST) instance and other value indicate the Multiple Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI). Numeral type. Range: 0-16.
primary Sets the device as the root bridge of the specified spanning tree instance. When you need to set the device as the root bridge, use this parameter. -
secondary Sets the device as the backup root bridge of the specified spanning tree instance. When you need to set the device as the backup root bridge, use this parameter. -

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • By default, the device is neither a root bridge nor a backup root bridge.
  • If you do not configure parameter instance instance-id, the configuration takes effect only on the CIST instance. If parameter instance-id is configured to 0, the current device is set as the root bridge or backup root bridge of CIST.
  • One spanning tree instance can be configured with only one root bridge, but one or multiple backup root bridges.
    • When the root bridge fails or is powered off, the backup root bridge is used as the root bridge of the specified spanning tree instance.
    • Among multiple configured backup root bridges, the one with the smallest MAC address is used as the root bridge of the specified spanning tree instance.
  • Root types the current device in different spanning tree instances are independent from each other. The current device can be the root bridge or backup root bridge in one or multiple spanning tree instances. In a spanning tree instance, a device cannot be root bridge and backup root bridge simultaneously.
    NOTE:
    • Do not configure one spanning tree instance with multiple root bridges. Otherwise, the calculation result will be unexpected.
    • You can set the current device as the root of multiple spanning tree instances. You can set multiple backup roots for a spanning tree.
    • Generally, it is recommended to specify a root and multiple backup roots for a spanning tree.

Example

To set the current device as the root bridge of spanning tree instance 1, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp instance
{ INTEGER<0-16> }:1
{ priority<K>|root<K> }:root
{ primary<K>|secondary<K> }:primary

  Command:
          stp instance 1 root primary
To set the current device as the backup root bridge of spanning tree instance 2, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp instance
{ INTERGER<0-16> }:2
{ priority<K>|root<K> }:root
{ primary<K>|secondary<K> }:secondary

  Command:
          stp instance 2 root secondary
To cancel setting the current device as the root bridge of spanning tree instance 1, do as follows:
huawei(config)#undo stp instance
{ INTERGER<0-16> }:1
{ priority<K>|root<K> }:root

  Command:
          undo stp instance 1 root

The BPDU Configuration of bpdu tunnel

Function Description

If the port of an access device is connected directly to the user terminal, such as a PC, or it is connected to the file server, the port is usually set as an edge port to implement rapid state transition. When the port receives the BPDU packets, the system sets the port as a non-edge port and recalculates the spanning tree. This results in an unstable network topology. Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) provides the BPDU protection function that prevents users from forging BPDU packets to attack the device maliciously.

Function

The bpdu tunnel command is used to enable or disable the transparent transmission of bridge protocol data units (BPDUs). After the function is enabled, the protocol data of the private network can be transmitted transparently in the public network. This function is mainly used in the QinQ service to provide a transparent and secure data channel between two places in an enterprise private network.
The undo bpdu tunnel command is used to clear the VLAN transparent transmission setting of L2 BPDU packets in a VLAN service profile.

Format

In the Global config mode:
bpdu tunnel vlan vlanid [ to end-vlanid ] enable
bpdu tunnel vlan vlanid [ to end-vlanid ] disable
In the VLAN service profile mode:
bpdu tunnel { enable | disable }
undo bpdu tunnel

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
vlan vlanid Indicates the VLAN ID. It identifies a VLAN uniquely. Numeral type. Range: 1-4093.
to end-vlanid This parameter is used with vlanid to specify the VLAN range. This parameter is used with vlanid to specify the VLAN range. To perform operations for continuous VLANs in batches, use this parameter. Numeral type. Range: 1-4093.
end-vlanid must be larger than or equal to vlanid.
enable Enables the transparent transmission of BPDUs. -
disable Disables the transparent transmission of BPDUs. After the function is disabled, the layer 2 protocol packet of the private network cannot be transparently transmitted in the public network. -

Modes

Global config mode, VLAN service profile mode

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • In the global config mode, run the vlan service-profile command to enter the VLAN service profile mode.
  • In the global config mode, by default, the transparent transmission for the Layer 2 BPDUs is disabled. In the VLAN profile mode, the system default value is NotConfig, that is, the configuration parameter takes effect in the global config mode.
  • The native VLAN does not support the transparent transmission for the BPDUs.
  • VLANs for a cable bundle do not support the transparent transmission for the BPDUs. Run the display cable bundle reserved vlan command to display reserved VLANs for a cable bundle.
  • The status of the transparent transmission for bridge protocol data unit (BPDU) packets configured by running the bpdu tunnel command determines the destination MAC address of MSTP packets.
    • If the transparent transmission of BPDU packets is disabled in all VLANs, the destination MAC address of MSTP packet is 01:80:C2:00:00:00.
    • If the transparent transmission of BPDU packets is enabled in any VLAN, the destination MAC address of MSTP packet is 01:80:C2:00:00:08.

Example

To enable the transparent transmission of BPDUs in QinQ VLAN 10 to QinQ VLAN 14 in the global config mode, do as follows:
huawei(config)#bpdu tunnel
{ vlan<K> }:vlan
{ vlanid<U><1,4093> }:10
{ disable<K>|enable<K>|to<K> }:to
{ vlanid<U><1,4093> }:14
{ disable<K>|enable<K> }:enable

  Command:
bpdu tunnel vlan 10 to 14 enable
It will take several minutes to set BPDU tunnel, please wait...
The total of enable BPDU tunnel succeed VLAN: 5
The total of enable BPDU tunnel failed VLAN: 0
To disable the transparent transmission of BPDUs in QinQ VLAN 10 to QinQ VLAN 14 in the global config mode, do as follows:
huawei(config)#bpdu tunnel
{ vlan<K> }:vlan

The MSTP Configuration of stp priority secondary

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

The stp priority secondary command is used to set the secondary priority of the device in spanning tree instance 0. The secondary priority of the device determines whether another device can be selected as the root bridge of the spanning tree after the upstream port of the original root bridge in the ring network is faulty. To set the secondary priority of the device so that a specified device (that is, the standby root bridge) can be selected as the root bridge of the spanning tree after the upstream port of the original root bridge in the ring network is faulty, run this command. After the secondary priority of the device is set, the configured value determines whether to switch the root bridge in spanning tree instance 0 after the upstream port of the original root bridge is faulty.
The undo stp priority secondary command is used to restore the secondary priority of the device in a specified spanning tree instance to the default value. After the secondary priority is restored to the default value, the secondary priority of the device is 61440.

Format

stp priority secondary priority
undo stp priority secondary

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
priority Indicates the secondary priority of the device. This value must use a step of 4096. The device priority increases with the decrease of the configured value. Numeral type. Range: 0-61440.
Default: 61440.

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • The device with a lower secondary priority is more likely to be selected as the root bridge of the spanning tree.
  • The secondary priority must be lower than the primary priority of the root bridge device. It is recommended that you set the priorities as follows: Primary priority of the root bridge > (higher than) Priority of the standby root bridge > Secondary priority of the root bridge > Priorities of the remaining devices in the CIST instance.
  • The secondary priority of the device is involved in the spanning tree calculation only after it is triggered. Generally, it is recommended that you set the secondary priority only for the root bridge device in spanning tree instance 0 (that is, CIST instance), and bind the secondary priority to the default multicast upstream port. The secondary priority is triggered to take effect only when the bound port is faulty.
  • This priority takes effect only in the CIST instance.
  • The secondary priority can be set only for spanning tree instance 0 and must be bound to a port. The secondary priority is triggered to take effect only when the bound port is faulty. The recommended port to be bound is the default multicast upstream port of spanning tree instance 0.
  • When the secondary priority takes effect and the root bridge of the spanning tree is to be selected, the device with a smaller MAC address is selected as the root bridge if the priorities of the devices are the same.

Example

To set the secondary priority of the device in the CIST instance of the spanning tree to 4096, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp priority secondary
{ bind<K>|integer<U><0,61440> }:4096

  Command:
          stp priority secondary 4096
To restore the secondary priority of the device in the CIST instance of the spanning tree to the default value, do as follows:
huawei(config)#undo stp priority secondary

The MSTP Configuration of stp priority

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5600T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

The stp priority command is used to set the priority of a device in the specified spanning tree instance. The device priority decides that whether the device can be selected as the root bridge of the spanning tree. When you need to set the device priority to realize the goal of specifying a device as the root bridge of the spanning tree, run this command. After the device priority is set, the set value serves as the criterion for deciding whether to select the device as the root bridge of the spanning tree.
The undo stp priority command is used to restore the default priority of a device in the specified spanning tree instance. After the default priority of a device is restored, the priority of the device in the specified spanning tree instance is 32768.
NOTE:
In the process of selecting the root of the spanning tree, among the devices with same priority, the device with the smallest MAC address will be selected as the tree root.

Format

stp [ instance instance-id ] priority priority
undo stp [ instance instance-id ] priority

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
instance instance-id Indicates the spanning tree instance ID. The value 0 indicates the Common And Internal Spanning Tree (CIST) instance and other value indicate the Multiple Spanning Tree Instance (MSTI). Numeral type. Range: 0-16.
priority priority Indicates the device priority, in steps of 4096. The smaller the set value is, the higher device priority is. Numeral type. Range: 0-61440.
Default: 32768.

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Usage Guidelines

  • The device with smaller priority value is more possible to be selected as the root bridge of the spanning tree.
  • Device priority participates in the calculation of the spanning tree. The device priority can be set separately based on the spanning tree instance to which it belongs, and different instances can be configured with different priorities.
  • If you do not configure parameter instance instance-id, the configuration takes effect only on the CIST instance.
  • The device supporting Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) can have different priorities in different spanning tree instances.

Example

To set the priority of the device in spanning tree instance 1 to 4096, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp instance
{ INTEGER<0-16> }:1
{ priority<K>|root<K> }:priority
{ integer<U><0,61440> }:4096

  Command:
          stp instance 1 priority 4096
To restore the default priority of the device in spanning tree instance 1, do as follows:
huawei(config)#undo stp instance
{ INTEGER<0-16> }:1
{ priority<K>|root<K> }:priority

What's the MSTP Configuration of stp port point-to-point

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

The stp port point-to-point command is used to set a link connected to the current Ethernet port as a point-to-point link or a non point-to-point link. When you need to set a link as a point-to-point link or a non point-to-point link to control the time for switching the Ethernet port state, run this command. After you set a link connected to the current Ethernet port as a point-to-point link, if the specified Ethernet port sends the request for rapid transition and the port meets the requirements of point-to-point link, the port state can be transited rapidly.
The undo stp port point-to-point command is used to restore the default setting. When you need MSTP to detect whether a link connected to the current Ethernet port is a point-to-point link, run this command to restore the default setting. After the default setting is restored, MSTP automatically detects the link and decides whether to process the request for rapidly switching the state of the specified Ethernet port.
NOTE:
If the Ethernet port is set to be connected to a point-to-point link, but the actual physical link connected to the port with is a non point-to-point link, the port may import temporary loops.

Format

stp port frameid/slotid/portid point-to-point { force-true | force-false | auto }
undo stp port frameid/slotid/portid point-to-point

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
frameid/slotid/portid Indicates the subrack ID, slot ID, and port ID. Enter a slash (/) between the subrack, slot, and port IDs. Only the Ethernet port is supported. When you need to set the specified port, use this parameter. Please see Differences Between Shelves.
force-true Sets the link connected to the specified Ethernet port as a point-to-point link. A point-to-point link refers to a link that directly connects two switches. -
force-false Sets the link connected to the specified Ethernet port as a non point-to-point link. -
auto Detects and specifies automatically whether the link connected to the specified Ethernet port is a point-to-point link. -

  • When the Ethernet port is connected to a non point-to-point link, the port state cannot be transited rapidly. It is recommended to use the default mode to enable MSTP detect the link automatically.
  • This setting takes effect to Common and Internal Spanning Tree (CIST) and all Multiple Spanning Tree Instances (MSTIs). When the Ethernet port is set to be connected to the point-to-point link (or non point-to-point link), the setting applies to all spanning tree instances.
  • For aggregation Ethernet ports, only the primary port can be set to be connected to a point-to-point link.
  • For the Ethernet port working in auto-negotiation mode, if the negotiated working mode is full-duplex, the Ethernet port can be set to be connected to a point-to-point link.

Example

To set the link connected to Ethernet port 0/19/0 as a point-to-point link, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
point-to-point
{ auto<K>|force-false<K>|force-true<K> }:force-true

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 point-to-point force-true
To restore the default mode of the link connected to Ethernet port 0/19/0, do as follows:
huawei(config)#undo stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|instance<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:

The MSTP Configuration of

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

This command is used to set the mCheck variable to force a port to work in Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) mode. When you need to check whether there is any bridge running STP in the network segment connected to the current port, run this command. After you set the mCheck variable manually, the port work in MSTP mode.
NOTE:
This command can be configured only when the bridge works in MSTP mode. If the bridge is set to work in STP mode, this command does not take effect.

Format

stp port frameid/slotid/portid mcheck

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
frameid/slotid/portid Indicates the subrack ID, slot ID, and port ID. Enter a slash (/) between the subrack, slot, and port IDs. Only the Ethernet port is supported. When you need to force a specified port to work in MSTP mode, use this parameter. Please see Differences Between Shelves.

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Usage Guidelines

  • If there is the bridge running STP in the network segment connected to the current port, the port mode transits to STP compatible mode.
  • When the network is stable, even if the bridge in the network segment which runs STP is disconnected, the related port still works in STP compatible mode. In this case, you can run the this command to force the port to work in MSTP mode. After that, you can check whether the port works in MSTP mode or STP compatible mode based on the type of the received packets.

Example

To set port 0/19/0 to work in MSTP mode, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
mcheck

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 mcheck

System Response

  • The system does not display any message after the command is executed successfully.

The MSTP Configuration of stp port loop-protection

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

This command is used to enable or disable the loop protection of an Ethernet port. When you need to enable the loop protection of a port to suppress the formation of loops, run this command. After the loop protection of an Ethernet port is enabled, the device suppresses the formation of loops.

Format

stp port frameid/slotid/portid loop-protection { enable | disable }

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
frameid/slotid/portid Indicates the subrack ID, slot ID, and port ID. Enter a slash (/) between the subrack, slot, and port IDs. When you need to set the state of the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), use this parameter. Please see Differences Between Shelves.
enable Enables the loop protection of a port. -
disable Disables the loop protection of a port. -

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • By default, the loop protection of a port is disabled.
  • To avoid the switching network loop due to the link congestion or unidirectional link fault, MSTP provides the loop protection function to suppress the formation of such loop.
  • The loop protection prevents the root port and blocked port from switching to the forwarding state when ports are aging. Though these two types of ports can be the specified ports when they are aging, yet they keep in the discarding state and cannot perform the processing only after receiving the BPDU (excluding the TCN packet). This prevents the generation of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) loop caused by link congestion or unidirectional link fault.
  • When you configure a port, only one of the loop protection function, root protection function and BPDU protection function takes effect.

Example

To enable the loop protection of port 0/19/0, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
loop-protection
{ disable<K>|enable<K> }:enable

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 loop-protection enable
To disable the loop protection of port 0/19/0, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
loop-protection
{ disable<K>|enable<K> }:disable

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 loop-protection disable

System Response

  • The system does not display any message after the command is executed successfully.

The MSTP Configuration of stp port edged-port?

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN. The MA5680T/MA5683T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

This command is used to set the current Ethernet port as an edge port or a non-edge port. When you need to enable a port to transit to the forwarding state rapidly and also ensure the network security, run this command. If a port is directly connected to the terminal, set the port as an edge port and enable the Bridge Protocol Data Unit (BPDU) protection function. After the current Ethernet port is set as an edge port, the device cannot receive the configuration message transmitted from other bridges.

Format

stp port frameid/slotid/portid edged-port { enable | disable }

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
frameid/slotid/portid Indicates the subrack ID, slot ID, and port ID. Enter a slash (/) between the subrack, slot, and port IDs. Only the Ethernet port is supported. When you need to set the specified port, use this parameter. Please see Differences Between Shelves.
enable Sets a specified Ethernet port as an edge port. Edge port refers to a port that is not directly connected to any switch or indirectly connected to any switch through the network connected to the port. -
disable Sets a specified Ethernet port as a non-edge port. -

Modes

Global config mode

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • By default, all ports are non-edged.
  • Only the port connected to the terminal can be set as an edge port. The edge port cannot receive the configuration message (BPDU packets) transmitted from other bridges because the edge port is not connected to any other bridge.
  • When the BPDU protection function is disabled and the port receives BPDU, the actual running value of the edge port is a non-edge port even if you set the port as an edge port.
  • This setting takes effect on all spanning tree instances, that is, when a port is set as an edge port or a non-edge port, the port is set as an edge port or a non-edge port in all spanning tree instances.
  • If a port is connected to a terminal instead of to other bridges or a shared network segment, the port is an edge port. The edge port does not import temporary loops when the network topology changes. Thus, if you set a specified port as an edge port, the port can transit from the blocking state to the forwarding state rapidly without any delay.

Example

To set port 0/19/0 as an edge port, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
edged-port
{ disable<K>|enable<K> }:enable

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 edged-port enable
To set port 0/19/0 as a non-edge port, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp port
{ frameid/slotid/portid<S><Length 5-18> }:0/19/0
{ cost<K>|disable<K>|edged-port<K>|enable<K>|instance<K>|loop-protection<K>|mche
ck<K>|point-to-point<K>|port-priority<K>|root-protection<K>|transmit-limit<K> }:
edged-port
{ disable<K>|enable<K> }:disable

  Command:
          stp port 0/19/0 edged-port disable

The MSTP Configuration of stp max-hops

Function

The stp max-hops command is used to set the maximum hops for an Multiple Spanning Tree (MST) region. To limit the network scale of the MST region, you need to set maximum hops. After the maximum hops for the MSTP region is set, the configuration message (BPDU packets) is forwarded from the root device of the spanning tree and the hop count in the BPDU packets decreases 1 by each hop from the maximum hops.
The undo stp max-hops command is used to restore the default maximum hops for an MST region. To limit the MST region in the default scale, run this command to restore the default maximum hops. After the default maximum hops for an MST region is restored, the maximum hops of the device is 20.

Format

stp max-hops hop-count
undo stp max-hops

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
hop-count Indicates the maximum hops for the MST region. Numeral type. Range: 1-40.
Default: 20.

Modes

Global config mode, OSN 2500, OSN 7500

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • The larger the maximum hops for the MST region is, the larger the scale of the MST region is. Only the maximum hops for the MST region which is configured on the root device of the region can limit the scale of the region. The non root bridge in the MST region adopts the maximum hops of the root bridge.
  • The configuration message (BPDU packets) is forwarded from the root device of the spanning tree in the MST region. When the BPDU packets is forwarded by a switch each time, the hop count decreases one. The device discards the received BPDU packets whose hop count is 0 to limit the scale of the MST region.
  • If the current device becomes the Common and Internal Spanning Tree (CIST) root bridge device in the MST region or MSTI root bridge device, the maximum hop count configured for this bridge device becomes the network diameter of the spanning tree to limit the scale of the spanning tree in the current MST region.

Example

To set the maximum hops for MST region to 10, do as follows:
huawei(config)#stp max-hops
{ integer<U><1,40> }:10

  Command:
          stp max-hops 10
To restore the default maximum hops for MST region, do as follows:
huawei(config)#undo stp max-hops

The MSTP Configuration of stp compliance

Function Description

The multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) applies to the redundant network. MSTP is an improvement of STP and RSTP. MSTP prevents the proliferation and infinite cycling of the packets in the loop network. In addition, MSTP provides multiple redundant paths for VLAN data transmission to achieve the load-sharing purpose. The MA5600T/MA5603T/MA5608T supports MSTP, which is compatible with the STP and RSTP. It supports MSTP loop network that helps meet various networking requirements.

Function

The stp compliance command is used to configure the protocol used by a port to transmit bridge protocol data unit (BPDU) packets. After this command is executed successfully, the port uses the configured protocol to transmit BPDU packets.
The undo stp compliance command is used to cancel the protocol used by a port to transmit BPDU packets. After this command is executed successfully, the protocol parameter used by the port to transmit BPDU packets is restored to the default value (auto).

Format

The MSTP Configuration of revision-level

Function

The revision-level command is used to configure the multiple spanning tree protocol (MSTP) revision level of the device. The revision level, region name and configuration digest are three decision factors to check whether the devices are in the same multiple spanning tree (MST) region. After the revision level is set, only the devices with the same revision level are in the same MST region.
The undo revision-level command is used to restore the default MSTP revision level of the device. By default, the revision level of the device is 0.

Format

revision-level level
undo revision-level

Parameters

Parameter Description Value
level Indicates the MSTP revision level. Numeral type. Range: 0-65535.
Default: 0.

Modes

MST region mode, OSN 3500, OSN 2500

Level

Operator level

Usage Guidelines

  • Run the config command to enter global config mode, and then run the stp region-configuration command to enter MST region mode.
  • The MSTP revision level, region name and VLAN mapping table are used to check the MST which the device belongs to.
  • The user configure the related parameters of the MST region on the device to divide the device into a specified MST region.
  • Two devices that belong to a same MST region meet the following requirements:
    • The region names are the same.
    • The revision levels are the same.
    • The configuration digest are the same. The configuration digest is calculated by VLAN mapping table of all the spanning trees and MD5-KEY through MD5 encryption algorithm.
  • The modified device revision level takes effect only after the configuration is activated.

Example

To set the MSTP revision level of the device to 32768, do as follow:
huawei(stp-region-configuration)#revision-level
{ integer<U><0,65535> }:32768

  Command:
          revision-level 32768
To restore the default MSTP level of the device, do as follows:
huawei(stp-region-configuration)#undo revision-level
