Symptom

At the NE commissioning in a project, no matter what alarms are generated in the subrack, the alarm indicators at the top of the cabinet are not on. However, if the Test switch is opened, the visual and audible alarm in the cabinet is normal.

Cause Analysis

  • The alarm connector in the subrack may be loosened.
  • The connector of the alarm cable to the power box may be loosened.
  • The PMU board is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check the connectors of the alarm cable in the subrack and to the power box. They are well installed.
  2. Replace the PMU board with the one in another cabinet and the alarms can be reported normally, whereas the alarms in the other cabinet cannot. The PMU board is faulty.
  3. Replace the faulty PMU board.

Reference Information

  • The problem can be resolved simply by replacing the board.
  • If you are familiar with the alarm flow, this case study is a good reference for such rare faults in the PMU.
