When a Gateway NE Becoming Unreachable to the NMS Occasionally

Keywords: MSTP products, OSN 1500/OSN 2500/OSN3500 II, Transport network product line
Summary:
A gateway NE (GNE) that houses an SSQ2CXL1-B2, SSQ2CXL4-B2, SSQ2CXL16-B2, SSQ5CXLLN-B2, or SSQ5CXLQ41-B2 board as the standby system control board is unreachable to the NMS for about 10 seconds occasionally when the board is warm or cold reset.

[Problem Description]

Trigger conditions:
An SSQ2CXL1-B2, SSQ2CXL4-B2, SSQ2CXL16-B2, SSQ5CXLLN-B2, or SSQ5CXLQ41-B2 board serves as a standby system control board on a GNE and is warm or cold reset.
Symptom:
The GNE and NEs connected are unreachable to the NMS
Identification method:
Identify whether involved the NE is a GNE
Run the cfg-get-bddetailinfo command to check whether an SSQ2CXL1-B2, SSQ2CXL4-B2, SSQ2CXL16-B2, SSQ5CXLLN-B2, or SSQ5CXLQ41-B2 board serves as a standby system board.
Check for the GNE_CONNECT_FAIL alarm to identify the exact time when the GNE becomes unreachable to the NMS.
Run the mon-get-errlog command to check the errlog of the standby system control board and check whether the standby system control board is reset when the GNE becomes unreachable to the NMS

[Root Cause]

If an SSQ2CXL1-B2, SSQ2CXL4-B2, SSQ2CXL16-B2, SSQ5CXLLN-B2, or SSQ5CXLQ41-B2 board serves as a standby system board, the NMS network port is enabled during a reset. The NMS network port on the active system control board is also enabled. Because the IP address of the NMS network ports on the active and standby system control boards is the same, the communication address conflicts, causing the GNE unreachable to the NMS.

[Impact and Risk]

The involved GNE becomes unreachable to the NMS for about 10 seconds occasionally and then reachable to the NMS automatically.

[Measures and Solutions]

Recovery measures:
No recovery measure is required. Upon starting the NE software, the standby system control board automatically disables the NMS network port, and the GNE becomes reachable to the NMS
Preventive measures:
N/A
Solutions:
Upgrade the extended BIOS of the involved system control boards.
For an R8 NE, obtain the 09.09.16 extended BIOS from the V100R8C02SPC200 extended package.
For an R10 NE, obtain the 09.09.32 extended BIOS from the V100R10C03SPC203 extended package
